Who You Are:
You’re passionate about space and software and are excited to be a self-starter who enjoys juggling the various facets of heavily automated satellite operations. You’re agile and love the nitty gritty. You thrive in fast-paced, matrixed, and collaborative environments, and are excited by the opportunity to contribute to the evolution of a GEO–LEO integrated Flight Dynamics capability for current and future constellations. You read, learn, experiment, and are full of ideas.

What You’ll Do:

The Senior Software Engineer works within the Flight Dynamics organization and reports to the Flight Dynamics Fleet Systems Manager. You’ll operate within a matrix-style organization, collaborating across software, mission analysis, and operations verticals. Your role is integral to the development, evolution, and support of the in-house built Flight Dynamics System (FDS) at the OneWeb Satellite Operations Center (SOC). They support system architecture, software prototyping and development, integration, testing and validation, and provide operational engineering support to in-orbit operations and mission analysis.

You will drive cloud-based software development efforts for highly automated LEO and GEO constellations while helping to develop and maintain synergies between LEO, GEO and future missions. You’ll contribute to the ongoing integration of GEO–LEO capabilities and ensure Flight Dynamics software tooling is scalable, resilient, and future-ready.

The candidate may periodically staff the on-call support rotation such that safe and efficient operations are ensured by the Flight Dynamics Operations Team on a 24/7 basis.

Duties will include:
•    Drive the architecture, development and maintenance of a cloud-based Flight Dynamics System (FDS) in charge of complex functions of a LEO and GEO Constellations such as orbit determination and prediction, maneuver and attitude optimisation and planning, conjunction assessment, among others.
•    Actively contribute to the creation of GEO–LEO synergies by developing shared architectures and tools across orbit regimes.
•    Support planning, development and readiness of the FDS for all phases of spacecraft lifetime; to launch to mission to de-orbit.
•    Proactively identify and lead the delivery of complete solutions to replace repetitive tasks with robust and event-driven automation and orchestration.
•    Troubleshoot and resolve Fleet Management and FDS problems in a critical operational environment.
•    Be an integral part of the business-wide software engineering centre of excellence and ensure best practices across the FDS technical stack.
•    Mentor and guide a talented team of software engineers actively cultivating a culture of excellence in software engineering practices.
•    Participate in the Flight Dynamics on-call rotation to support 24/7 operational needs as required (<1 week/month).

What it Takes:
•    A minimum of 7 years of experience related to development of complex cloud-based systems (AWS preferred).
•    A minimum of 7 years of experience and proficiency in Python and/or Java.
•    Advanced working level knowledge and experience in:
o    Building and configuring highly automated cloud-based systems in a microservices-based architecture.
o    Automation orchestration.
•    Experience with FastAPI, Litestar, Django or other web frameworks.
•    Advanced working level knowledge and experience in relational and non-relational databases.
•    Excellent communication skills and desire to learn new technologies.
•    Experience working with multiple small and medium sized project-based teams, in an iterative, collaborative and agile manner.
•    Some mentoring experience or experience leading a small team.
•    Ability to work with minimal supervision in an agile-based team environment.
•    Bachelor of Science (BSc) in a Computer, Math, Physics or Engineering related field.

What We’d Love:
•    Experience in operations and mission critical systems.
•    Experience related to Flight Dynamics Systems or Space Systems.
•    Experience with ground segment Integration and Validation.
