What You’ll Do:

 

The Fleet Operations Engineer reports to the on-shift Mission Director (MD) and performs all activities and tasks necessary to operate the fleet of OneWeb satellites and the Satellite Operations Center (SOC) systems.  The Ops Engineer role is a real-time shift position.  Control of the fleet is highly automated and therefore the Ops Engineer is an expert in operation of the command and control, mission management, and ground control applications software, the satellite subsystems, and interfaces to other elements of the system. The Ops Engineer plays an integral role in the successful operations of the OneWeb constellation.

 

Duties will include:

 

  • Monitor & facilitate the execution of all planned tasks for satellite operations
  • Configure, operate, troubleshoot, and resolve issues in the SOC application software
  • Perform mission planning tasks such as contact schedule and activities modifications
  • Perform assessment of satellite configuration, state of health evaluation, trending, and performance
  • Directs satellite configuration changes to maintain performance within defined parameters but may be required to periodically perform manual and contingency commanding if necessary
  • Perform satellite telemetry trending and analysis
  • Respond to satellite anomalies and service outages and facilitates recoveries
  • Ground antenna forecast contact scheduling
  • Identify, analyze, and troubleshoot satellite operational data flow related issues in the SOC ground system including firewalls, routers, switches, cloud computing infrastructure, SOC application software layer, remotely hosted hardware, and MPLS network
  • Configure, test, and verify new processes related to SOC automation
  • Participates in procedure development, test and validation, as well as automation rule set development, test, and deployment
  • Perform on-console SOC operations in a shift environment

 

What It Takes:

 

  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering or equivalent satellite operations work experience
  • Experience in one or more of the following: Java, Python, C, or C++
  • Experience working in Unix/Linux OS based systems
  • Demonstrated ability to work independently, take ownership of all aspects of job and take initiative
  • Excellent oral and written skills and communication / briefing skills is essential
  • Demonstrated ability to work to tight deadlines in highly dynamic environment

 

What We’d Love:

 

  • The ideal candidate will have 1 – 5 years of real-time flight operations console experience in:
  • Satellite command and control operations software and products
  • Satellite subsystems including satellite payload RF communication systems
  • Engineering analysis tools
  • Orbital Mechanics of LEO satellites
  • Mission planning software and products including contact planning and scheduling
  • Telemetry, Tracking, and Control (TT&C) Antenna system application software and products
  • Detailed satellite subsystem operation and maintenance
  • LEO satellite operations including launch, in-orbit test, orbital maneuvers, commissioning, and deorbit
  • Direct experience in SOC system configuration and operation is preferred
  • Multi-satellite LEO constellation operations experience is preferred
