Job Overview

We are looking for a senior, hands-on System Integration & Test Engineer to lead the definition, build, commissioning and readiness of laboratories supporting IRIS² and next-generation Eutelsat LEO services. You will translate system architecture and the end-to-end integration strategy into secure, repeatable environments where RF, network, compute and software elements can be integrated progressively. Working directly with hardware and test equipment, you will also partner with System Engineering, IVV, programme teams, facilities, IT, cyber security and suppliers to expose integration risks early and keep the end-to-end delivery moving.

Who You Are

  • A practical senior engineer who has taken complex integration laboratories from concept and design through build, commissioning and controlled operation.
  • Comfortable moving between the test bench and programme discussions: connecting equipment, taking measurements and debugging faults, then explaining impacts and options clearly.
  • A collaborative systems thinker who can work across RF, network, compute and software domains with internal teams and multi-vendor partners.

What You’ll Do

  • Own the lab lifecycle: define requirements, layouts, bills of materials, procurement, build plans, commissioning, acceptance and transition into controlled operation.
  • Design fit-for-purpose facilities: specify racks, resilient power, cooling, grounding, copper/fibre networking, RF distribution, timing, remote access, security, monitoring and safe working arrangements.
  • Build RF test capability: configure and use spectrum/signal analysers, VNAs, signal generators, power meters, oscilloscopes, channel emulators, traffic generators, RF switching and associated cabling and components.
  • Create representative environments: integrate user terminals and UE simulators, gateway/ground-segment components, RAN and 5G Core functions, IP transport, cloud and control systems.
  • Drive progressive end-to-end integration: turn delivery sequence into a phased roadmap for early interface, interoperability & performance testing as elements become available.
  • Integrate vendor deliveries: set readiness criteria, review supplier evidence, support factory/site acceptance, verify interfaces and lead lab integration campaigns.
  • Lead fault isolation: debug cross-domain hardware/software and RF/network issues, capture evidence and drive root-cause analysis and technical closure.
  • Control and improve the labs: maintain diagrams, assets, calibration and configuration baselines; manage capacity and readiness; automate instrument control, health checks and repeatable test execution.
  • Support programme delivery: contribute to verification planning, test execution, defect triage and reporting, and communicate end-to-end blockers, recovery options and technical risk clearly.

What You’ll Need / Essential experience

  • A degree in Electrical/Electronic Engineering, Telecommunications, Computer Science, Physics or a related discipline, or equivalent practical experience.
  • Substantial relevant experience (typically seven years or more) in satellite communications, telecoms, aerospace, defence or another complex systems environment, including ownership of building or materially expanding integration labs.
  • Strong hands-on RF test experience using spectrum analysers and VNAs, supported by sound knowledge of calibration, measurement set-up, signal levels, losses and safe equipment operation.
  • Practical knowledge of RF signal paths, components and cabling, including attenuators, filters, amplifiers, couplers, switching, termination and protection.
  • Proven multi-vendor hardware/software integration and fault diagnosis across RF, IP networking, compute, software and interface boundaries.
  • Working knowledge of lab infrastructure including racks, resilient power, earthing, cooling, copper/fibre networking, timing, remote access, asset/calibration management, configuration control and safety.
  • Strong Linux and IP networking skills, plus the ability to automate equipment and workflows using Python, Bash, instrument APIs or SCPI.
  • Clear communication, sound engineering judgement and the ability to influence technical and programme decisions across teams and suppliers.
  • EU27 citizenship is required for this role, together with the ability to satisfy any applicable programme security and access requirements.

Desirable experience

  • LEO, MEO or GEO satellite systems experience, particularly gateways, user terminals, ground segment, TT&C or satellite RF chains.
  • 4G/5G, RAN, 5G Core, UE/terminal, QoS, traffic generation or network/channel emulation experience.
  • Experience delivering secure, high-availability test facilities and working with virtualisation, Kubernetes/cloud platforms, CI/CD or automated test frameworks.
  • Experience on large European institutional or multi-partner space programmes, including ESA, governmental bodies or distributed suppliers.

Where You’ll Work

Toulouse or Paris, with regular travel between Eutelsat, partner, supplier and integration sites as required by the programme.
