Job Overview
We are looking for an enthusiastic and rigorous IRIS² Mission Control Centre (MCC) Integration, Testing and Validation Software Engineer to join our team and play a critical role in the integration, verification, validation, deployment and operational readiness of the MCC software suit.
IRIS² (Infrastructure for Resilience, Interconnectivity and Security by Satellites) is a European Union programme delivering secure and resilient multi-orbit satellite communications. The MCC is a core Ground Segment software system responsible for near-real-time coordination, planning, monitoring and control of resources within the Space Transport Network (STN), across LEO and MEO satellites, gateways, RAN components and payload-related functions.
In this position, you will work at the intersection of software engineering, system integration, IVV, infrastructure and mission operations. You will collaborate closely with MCC architects and developers, operations engineers, system and network engineers, infrastructure teams, software providers and external partners to ensure that the delivered MCC solution is reliable, scalable, secure, observable and fit for operational use.
Who You Are
You are a highly motivated and methodical software engineer with experience in complex, distributed or mission-critical systems. You are comfortable working across application software, interfaces, test environments and operational infrastructure, and you can translate system-level requirements into practical integration and validation activities.
You demonstrate:
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to investigate complex integration issues and anomalies
- A structured and methodical approach to software integration, testing, validation and maintenance
- A strong understanding of distributed systems, APIs, asynchronous messaging and operational software
- The ability to work across application, infrastructure and system boundaries
- A high level of autonomy and responsibility in ensuring software quality, reliability and operational readiness
- Excellent communication skills for interaction with technical, operational and external stakeholders
- A strong commitment to cybersecurity, configuration control, traceability and continuous improvement
What You’ll Do
- Contribute to the integration, verification and validation of MCC software and its interfaces across the IRIS² Ground Segment.
- Supervise the MCC implementation and in particular the integration, testing and validation activities carried out by the MCC contractor.
- Participate in the validation of the MCC functions including resource orchestration and planning, control-plane orchestration, component management and control, mission analysis and monitoring
- Participate to the testing of the MCC interactions with other Ground Segment components (operational organs and common tools)
- Collaborate in building and maintaining representative test environments on containerized Ground Segment infrastructure, including distributed deployments across geographically separated sites
- Support scalability and resilience testing, including progressive deployment, gateway and satellite scaling, and recovery from site or component failures
- Support cybersecurity verification activities covering authentication integration and confidentiality/integrity of communications, including interfaces
- Coordinate defect investigation, change requests and regression testing with software developers, architects, system engineers and external suppliers
- Maintain IVV documentation.
- Contribute to software packaging, deployment and release validation, ensuring that only required software/services/components are deployed and that COTS and Open Source Software usage remains properly documented
- Supervise and manage lifecycle activities from early integration and derisking through deployment, operational qualification, LEOP/IOT support and in-service evolution
- Collaborate with contractors and technology providers to ensure technical follow-up (enhancements and licenses updates), delivery quality and compliance with applicable requirements.
- Participate to customer demonstrations and formal acceptance activities.
What You’ll Need
- Degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, Electronics, Telecommunications, Aerospace engineering or a related engineering discipline
- Proven experience (three years or more) in software integration, verification, validation or testing for complex, distributed or mission-critical systems
- Experience with system-level IVV, integration laboratories, test benches or operational software environments
- Strong understanding of distributed software architectures, interfaces, APIs, asynchronous messaging and state/stream-based data exchanges
- Practical experience with REST APIs and structured message/schema validation
- Experience with containerized application environments and distributed deployment architectures; knowledge of container orchestration is highly desirable
- Experience with Linux and software scripting/automation for test execution and environment management
- Knowledge of configuration management concepts and configuration management driven system implementation
- Experience with software observability, including logs, metrics, traces and diagnostic data
- Knowledge of cybersecurity principles relevant to software integration, including authentication, input validation and protected communications
- Experience with software lifecycle, defect management, configuration management and release processes
- Familiarity with satellite communications, 5G, Software Defined Networking, network control or Ground Segment systems is a strong plus
- Knowledge of ECSS-oriented software/product assurance or equivalent quality frameworks is a plus
- Experience working with external suppliers and multidisciplinary engineering teams
- Fully fluent English written and spoken; French and Spanish are a plus
- Strong organisational skills, team player and attention to detail
- Eligibility to work in the European Union is mandatory
Where You’ll Work
You will be based in Issy-les-Moulineaux, Paris (France), in a highly technical environment dedicated to IRIS² Ground Segment and Mission Control Centre engineering within the Engineering Department, working closely with software, system, network, infrastructure and operations teams.
The role involves:
- Cross-functional collaboration with engineering, IVV, operations, infrastructure and cybersecurity teams
- Technical interaction with external software suppliers and Ground Segment partners
- Integration and validation activities spanning laboratory, test and operational environments
- A dynamic environment combining software engineering, system integration, testing and operational readiness
Home office may be considered after completion of the initial training period and subject to operational constraints. Given the highly technical and mission-critical nature of the role, the position is primarily based on-site, where access to systems and close collaboration with engineering and operational teams are essential.
